under pressure

Tue Jun 2, 2009, 7:49 PM
OK, folks. I am under pressure now. Help me out!

I believe that stuff happens and changes happen for reasons - good and bad. Often, we take / accept changes without thinking. That is al GOOD sometimes and that is NG sometimes...

At the end of March, I was notified by the employer that my position within the company would be eliminated in 9 months as part of restructuring. Slap, Slap.... I immediately jumped on my personal network, which has always worked better than anything else in the past. Luckily within a couple of weeks, I was able to schedule an interviews with a few companies in the country. I maintained my professionalism and worked hard as usual. I was ready to fly out to the interviews and then was told by the employer that they wanted to keep me at work, saying "forget about what happened. Nothing happened. Your position will not be eliminated". I told them that I had a few interviews lining up and they told me to cancel them. What a joke. How unprofessional is it? Of course I did not cancel them!

Stuff happens for reasons and now... what was the reason for this joke?

Me thinking - the universe gave me the opportunity to look around and see what is happening out there. Yes, there are sooo many great opportunities and interesting technologies out there. When one works like a slave all day and everyday, one tends to miss those opportunities.

Now that I have done the interview with three companies, I have three offers on the table. I can get down to one but I need to make up my mind in the next couple of weeks. I am under pressure.. WHY?

1) I love this area. I have spend some time in many different places, including Asia and Europe, and I must admit that I love this area. The best place to live within my experience.

2) Also, I have some good friends here and I hate to say good bye to them

3) I want to get out of manufacturing biz and get a government job. Washington DC is about 60 miles down the road. So why not get it? I cannot right now. 2 more years and then I can apply for a US citizenship.

4) Can I trust the current employer? They might change their mind again in the not too distant future..

5) Those offers are tempting. Great opportunities and projects with a better future. EXCITING!!

So, part of me thinking that I should hang in here for a couple more years and get a government job, and enjoy drama free life in the place I love. Part of me thinking "Move on. Do not trust the current employer. I might miss all the opportunities all together. I need more excitements in my professional life. Never stop!!".

I know that I am the one who must make the decision but what do you think? Any wisdoms out there?

Thanks for reading. I am not a good writer...
